Stella Coat – Rebbeca Page

Oh, my!
Did I really just make this coat?
Well, yes… yes I did! *pats self in the back* 😛

The Stella Coat from Rebecca Page is a definite showstopper. A fully lined tailored coat with Victorian vibes.

It features princess seams, hidden button placket, funnel neck, optional welt pockets, and an amazing high-low skirt.

As per Rebbeca Page’s style, the instructions are very detailed and illustrated making the whole process as easy as possible.

This was a labor of love, but oh so rewarding at the end!
The pattern isn’t difficult per se, it was just the amount of fabric that I had to maneuver that made it more of a challenge.

I chose to use a quilted lining, which is lightweight but has volume, so sometimes it felt like I was drowning in fabric. lol

But all worth it for sure! I LOVE this thing!
I used a poly-cotton blend for my outer and it balanced out perfectly with the quilted lining. The coat is lightweight, warm, and has enough structure to add a bit of drama to it.

The fit of the coat is great.
One thing to consider is that you should always make a muslin, especially when making a more elaborate and tailored piece like this one.

Make sure to measure yourself properly, go via the size chart AND the finished measurements chart, adjust for height… every detail is important in order to have a well-fitting piece. Don’t assume that it will fit perfectly right from the get-go without adjustments because it probably won’t.

Also, fabric choices are very important. This coat has a lot of it, so if you choose something heavyweight, the result will be a bulkier coat. A softer fabric with a lot of drape will give you a not-so-full skirt.
It all depends on personal taste and style. 😉

As I’ve mentioned above, I went with a lightweight main fabric and a double stitched lining. The jacket is light to wear and warm enough to take me through fall will only a thin sweater or long-sleeved top underneath.

I, personally, probably won’t make a Stella for winter. It would be too heavy and bulky for my taste. I have back issues and wearing heavy coats is not really a good idea for me.

I do want to turn Stella into a dress though…
What do you think? Wouldn’t it be amazing?

  1. WOW! This is amazing! It looks like something a pirate queen would wear when she gets chilly! The pop of yellow is so good against the grey when the coat is closed.
