Team G+G Collection – George and Ginger

Go Team G+G, Go!

What can I say?
Leave it to Kristi to make a sporty collection runway worthy.

I hope you bear with me with this one.
I got a little too enthusiastic and went on a sewing spree, so there’s A LOT to share… lol

To be honest, I’ll probably just need to split this into 2 or 3 posts.
Let’s see how it goes and play it by ear, shall we? πŸ˜‰

The collection is composed of 3 patterns:

  • Tryout Tracksuit – not your run of the mill tracksuit though, I’m obsessed with the jacket silhouette;
  • Switch It Up Bra FRONT edition – 1 basic back, 10 different front options
  • Switch It Up Bra BACK edition – 1 basic front, 10 different back options.

“Is it possible to mix and match the front and back options?”

As I’m pretty sure this will be one of the most asked questions, here’s a quote from Kristi:

“You can if you work out the construction. I wasn’t able to get that to work with every single option without exposed or unfinished seams, so I did it this way. Some fronts work better with some backs than others do. It’s definitely a personal hack situation.”

I did mixed and matched them and will be talking about them. Most of them worked out perfectly, some of them have a couple of exposed seams on the inside.

But lets start the party with the

TRYOUT TRACKSUIT

“The Tryout Tracksuit is a Team G+G dream!  Including a comfortable zip-up hoodie design and a wide-leg warm up pant style, you will love customizing color schemes and stripe options!  Pattern includes both options for stripes or no stripes.”

I never got into the tracksuit bandwagon… until now!
I’m not sporty enough to wear it as gear and I didn’t sew when they were super popular and straight sizes never fit me right.

The Tryout is such a game-changer! I love EVERYTHING about it.
The jacket is so flattering and the pants are just the right combination of fashion and comfort.

I made 3 sets so far, plus a couple of hacks and an extra pair of pants, and don’t plan on stopping any time soon haha

Ok, so as I’m writing this I’ve decided to, indeed, break this down into separate posts. Here’s what I’ll do:

  • post 1 – rundown of collection
  • post 2 – devoted to Tryout
  • post 3 – devoted to Switch It Up

I believe it will be a better overview this way. πŸ˜‰

Just some basic info and thoughts about the Tryout for now:

  • For the jackets I used fleece and french terry and, I definitely love the look of the fleece more. It just holds the shape better and it so warm and soft.
  • For the pants, I used fleece, Ponte, and jersey… they all worked and they’re all amazing.
  • For the waistband and cuffs, you definitely need fabric with enough stretch and body to hold the shape nicely. I used rib knit and ponte, both worked out great.

And as I mentioned hacks and didn’t want to leave you hanging, here they are πŸ˜‰

Tryout sweaters!
One in Fleece and one in FT. Love them both, love them ALL!

I’ll go tinto the details about it on the next post.
Now let’s move on to:

SWITCH IT UP BRA – FRONT EDITION

“The Switch It Up Bra Front Edition is an all-in-one design that’s perfect for mixing and matching your favorite styles!  One basic, full coverage back with TEN different front options–all interchangeable and ready to be customized just for you!”

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, right?
So I’ll just leave you with these then πŸ˜‰

I just couldn’t decide on a favorite one, so I made them all!

SWITCH IT UP BRA – BACK EDITION

“The Switch It Up Bra Back Edition is an all-in-one design that’s perfect for mixing and matching your favorite styles!  One basic, full coverage front with TEN different back options–all interchangeable and ready to be customized just for you!”

There you go, another picture overload!

As I said, more info on these to come. But here are some quick thoughts and info πŸ˜‰

  • First and foremost, they’re all awesome and it’s THE bra pattern to have!
  • It’s an amazing scrap buster
  • They’re lined and you could easily add a third layer of powermesh for extra support;
  • There are instructions to add elastic to the straps and bands;
  • I used FOE instead of binding in a lot of them;
  • I used a mixture of different fabrics like, athletic knits, lycra, cotton lycra, mesh… as long as the fabric has enough stretch, you’ll be fine.
  • Front view C and Back view P are the only ones sewn per pattern, all the rest is mixed and matched.

This is it for now!
I’ll start working on the next posts, but feel free to shoot me a message if you have any questions!
