CYOD – Choose Your Own Dress

Choose Your Own Dress (CYOD) is the perfect name for this pattern!
It’s so option packed that you can make one for every day of the year and probably not have to repeat a single combination!

  • Sleeve lengths: sleeveless, cap, short, elbow, 3/4 and long
  • Neckline: crew, narrow scoop, wide scoop, and boat
  • Back: high, mid or low
  • Skirt lengths, straight hem: tunic, mini, knee, midi, and maxi
  • Skirt lengths, high-low hem: tee front/tunic back, tunic front/mini back, mini front/knee back, knee front/midi back, midi front/maxi back

Sounds like a lot, right?
There’s more!

The CYOD is compatible with the Skirt add-on and the All the Sleeves add-on packs (sold separately).

The Skirt add-on includes a gathered Tulip Skirt and an A-line skirt, both in the lengths: tunic, mini, knee, midi, and maxi.

The All the Sleeves add-on comes with the options: Puffy, Juliet, Bishop, Bell, Tulip, Knot and Flutter

Someone in the RAD group calculated that there are almost 2000 (two thousand!) possible combinations!!! What?! ???

I’m so bad at making choices, so to narrow it down I decided to stick to the basic CYOD pattern for the choices for my first dress (and second because miss 11 wanted one too ?).

The pattern is Women’s sizes, but this girl of mine insists on keep growing, so right now she’s kind of in sizing limbo… floating between kids and ladies sizes, depending on pattern and designer.

Here are the specs I used for her dress:

  • Size XXS bust, graded to XS for waist and skirt;
  • Bodice: shortened by 1”
  • Crew neck, Midi back;
  • Cap sleeves;
  • Skirt: mini length, straight hem.

She’s shorter than what the pattern is drafted for, so I kept the mini skirt length as is to have it at almost knee length.

She’s a more sporty kinda girl, not too girly and hardly ever asks for a dress… but this one she loves! I really have to find time to cut a bunch more for her!
Top fabric is cotton lycra and the skirt is rayon knit.

My dress is a straight size L. I’d normally grade it at the hips to size 1X, but due to the nature of the skirt, the L was roomy enough to fit my big ol’ hips. 😉

The options I went for were:

  • Bodice lengthened by 1″;
  • Boat neckline;
  • Low back (only option for the chosen neckline);
  • Cap sleeves;
  • Skirt lengthened by 2″;
  • Knee length, straight hem;
  • Pockets.

The top is CL and the skirt is woven. The skirt’s fabric is so light and airy that I have to keep checking if the derriere is actually covered because it feels like I’m not wearing anything! haha

I have another CYOD in the works, but so many things went wrong while I was making it that right now it’s thrown in a corner having a timeout because I’m mad at it! ?
Meanwhile, I’ll enjoy wearing my chosen dress! 😀

Oh, and here’s some fun proof that the girl loves her dress: She didn’t want to share the spotlight! LOL
